The Cycle of History
From Oys to Oost and back again: originally built in the 13th century, the castle was known as Kasteel Oys, a name it received from the noble family of knights who owned it. Over the centuries, the castle underwent changes in its name, ownership and architecture. Now, following a meticulous restoration, it proudly bears its original name: Van Oys.
Castle
The castle has been restored to its most elegant pre-1848 form, in accordance with regulations and carefully incorporating monumental elements from historic sites across Europe.
Remise
Originally a coach house, the Remise was later extended to store agricultural produce. Two hundred years ago, the original structure was rebuilt in its current location using the same materials.
Carré
The Remise belonged to a carré-style farm, typical of South Limburg. The new Carré respects its original design, using materials and colours inspired by the marl that honour the region’s heritage.
