Istanbul

Bridge between Europe and Asia

Istanbul is the largest and most westernised city in Turkey.

It is set between two seas, the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea, between two continents, Europe and Asia, and between two worlds, namely the traditional and the modern. Thanks to all this, the culture of the Turkish economic capital is very rich. Due to the fact that it has been the capital of three empires: the Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires, we find many mosques, churches, synagogues and historic buildings, all of which are really worth visiting.

Istanbul is home to extraordinary monuments: the Blue Mosque and the Arap Mosque, Topkapi Palace, seat of imperial Ottoman power, Dolmabahce Palace, the Church of Hagia Sophia and St. Irene's Church (the first church in Byzantium), to name just a few of Istanbul’s many monuments.

There is the old city, located in the so called Golden Horn, the Great Bazaar with over 58 streets and 4,000 shops, outstanding amongst which are the jewellery, gold and spice shops, as well as the carpet stores and the spice bazaar. Cross the Bosphorus by boat, enjoy a genuine Döner Kebab and other traditional Istanbul dishes.
