Tenerife-Costa Adeje

Holiday paradise

The Canary Islands lie off the southwest of mainland Spain and the northwest of Africa.

This archipelago is formed by seven islands, all different and rich in beautiful and evocative landscapes.

Tenerife, the largest island of the seven, is crossed by a mountain chain whose features include the so-called Cañadas del Teide and the highest peak on Spanish territory: Mount Teide (3,718 m).

The island’s unique rich and varied flora ranges from large, lush pine woods and vast banana plantations to fields that are full of poinsettia flowers in spring. Along the coast are magnificent cliffs and fine sandy beaches bathed by crystal-clear Atlantic waters.

El Teide National Park is one of the most important attractions of Tenerife. No stay on the island is complete without a trip to this park, which enables visitors to reach the peak of Mount Teide, the highest point on Spanish territory, and to admire its huge crater, 80 km in diameter, as well as the Cañadas, flat areas where lava fields and fantastically-shaped caves have formed.

Another great attraction in Tenerife is the so-called Acantilados de los Gigantes, or “Cliffs of the Giants”, which create an exceptionally lovely landscape on the Costa Cortada coastline in Santiago del Teide. Garachico is a monumental town of singular beauty with a small port (once the most important on the island), a black sandy beach and delightful natural swimming pools. Any visit to Tenerife should also include a trip to the monumental university city of La Laguna, once capital of the island when Santa Cruz was merely its port. Another outstanding sight is La Orotava, without a doubt the most idyllic landscape on the island, a picturesque city adorned by spacious gardens and mansions that sport the typical Canary Island balconies made of tea wood. The finest include the so-called Casas de los Balcones, two old mansions dating back to the 18th century.
