Cascais
Cascais, 27 km from Lisbon, an ancient fishing village and one of Portugal’s most vibrant and sophisticated resorts offering all types of sports, shows and entertainment.
Serra da Sintra, a place of rare beauty where imposing palaces and castles combine with stunning scenery, is only 15 km away from Cascais.
During the 20th century, it become the summer home of the international jet-set. Nowadays, with more than ten golf courses in its surroundings and located at the foot of a wonderful Bay to practice water sports, it is an important touristic centre and the main place where the Portuguese mid-high class has its second home. The centre of Cascais is the Praia da Ribeira, the beach where the fishermen unload their catch every morning. The fish market is situated on one side of the beach and behind it are the pedestrianised shopping streets. At the other end of the bay, to the west, stands the 16th-century citadel, which stands on the headland between the harbour and the bay.
